Places to Visit in Ecuador
Native American Market in Otavalo
Let your Ecuador journey take you to the colorful Indian town of Otavalo, where the inhabitants dress in their respective village’s distinctive costumes. Here is a festive Saturday market that every traveler should experience.
The market is divided into two; one for the local traders and one for the tourists. At the tourist market you can buy all kinds of souvenirs such as handicrafts and woven clothes. Weaving is a craft that has followed the Otavalo Indians for approx. 4,000 years.
These Native Americans are actually the ones who are doing financially best among all the Native American tribes in Ecuador. This is clearly due to the generosity of the tourists when we buy the masterful craft to take home.
Cruise to the Galapagos
1,000 kilometers off the coast of Ecuador, the Galapagos Islands adorn the great Pacific Ocean. The archipelago consists of 18 major islands, with Santa Cruz considered the most popular destination for travel to the Galapagos. From here you can embark on an adventurous island hopping or start your cruise between the Galapagos Islands.
The wildlife of the Galapagos is spectacular. Giant crabs, sea and land turtles, sea lions, fur seals, the blue-footed sole and many more have a home here. It only takes ordinary physical shape to be able to participate in the Tourist Travel cruise.
You must be able to climb into an inflatable boat and handle wet landings. Likewise, there may be slopes that need to be climbed when going from the beach and up to the island itself. The long distances between the islands are always sailed at night, so the days can be used to go on adventures ashore or at sea.
Climb Iliniza Norte
The view from the Iliniza mountains is absurdly beautiful. From here you can see Machachi village and the volcanoes of the eastern mountain range. To the top you will have a view of the Andes Mountains on one side and the Pacific coast on the other side.
Regardless of your technical level, you can climb Iliniza Norte with Tourist Travel. The trip only takes three hours to the top, and only requires regular hiking boots and trekking clothes. We like to use Iliniza Norte as a test, for those who dream of trekking up the 3,310 meter high mountain Chimborazo.
On the way up Iliniza Norte you will also find some cozy mountain huts that you can spend the night in. It is always nice to lay all trekking equipment and take a well-deserved rest before taking the big trip up the Chimborazo.
The Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve is located in the middle of the lush Amazonas. Here you will experience an enriched and amazing wildlife. Join Tourist Travel on an adventure excursion, where we greet the rainforests’ Indian tribes and admire their way of life.
Be ready for a knockout on the sensory barometer as we search for the colorful animals of the Amazon. The Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve is home to over 500 bird species, 10 monkey species, anacondas, quays, jaguars, pink river dolphins, manatees, fish such as arapaima and piranha, armadillos and many more animals.
The people of Zion live in the area. They take good care of the rainforest and its animals. If there is time in the travel calendar for a week extension to the Amazon, you should take Tourist Travel to this UNESCO World Heritage Site which is absolutely ideal.
With its 5,897 meters, Cotopaxi is the world’s highest active volcano. Do you want to challenge yourself on your Ecuador trip? Then take Tourist on a volcanic trek up the fantastic Cotopaxi. This trip requires good physical shape. Easier volcanic trek is possible on one of the area’s many other volcanoes.
If you travel to Ecuador with the hope of exploring the many natural wonders that the country has to offer, you will hit two birds with one stone at this trek. The trip to the top swings past glaciers and giant lakes, which makes you stare.
On the trip to Cotopaxi we pass the cozy spa town of Baños located at a comfortable 1,800 meters altitude. Here you can have a refreshing spa in one of the city’s hot springs. Cotopaxi is just a few hours’ drive from the capital Quitos.
